I Am So Lame

It won’t surprise some, since I am originally from East Tennessee. But it will surprise others because of the number of times I have dissed it. But I am on the couch on a Sunday afternoon in front of my television getting ready to watch a NASCAR race. Hick, Redneck, Hillbilly. Fine. But the way I see it, it is a big sporting event that I have never given the chance to be fun.

Today’s race is the annual NASCAR race at Daytona. In 1990, before my family left for Brazil, we went to Florida for a family vacation. While there, not sure if it was by accident or on purpose, we ended up driving by the speedway. Wrigley Field, Madison Square Gardens, the Rose Bowl…all are places of sport that I don’t have to like the teams that play there, but I do respect their place in sports history. Same for the Daytona 500. From the time they raced on the beach, to the amazing races at the speedway, racing does have it’s place in sports history.

So, I have given in to a sport that millions of people follow and who give millions of dollars more. And I guess in the end, I am up for an awesome wreck that everyone walks away from. And by the way, if you want to know my favorite driver, its Mark Martin. There is only one reason for it. It is a hilarious story. My dad and brother will remember the story right away.

Gentlemen, start your engines!!!
