Lincoln/Money

Sometimes it’s not all about the money in sports. The Lincoln I speak of is Daniel Lincoln. He is the field goal kicker for the Tennessee Volunteers. Last night, he kicked the game-winning field goal in overtime. Tennessee beat the one guy Tennessee fans wants to beat, Steve Spurrier. After being up 21 to 0 and then surrendering that lead and going down 24 to 21, it was time we showed some guts and glory and win a game we almost let slip away. Now, after losing badly in three different games, Tennessee is in the lead of the SEC East. If Tennessee can win the remaining games on the schedule, they will be playing in the championship game in December.

The coach, Philip Fulmer, is most definitely on the hot seat. Tennessee hasn’t won the SEC in years. To be a powerhouse, you need to have won a championship in relatively close history. Now, I did a little research on coaches that have coached at their school for a long time, like Coach Fulmer has (17 years.) My main coach to research was Penn State’s Joe Paterno. Since 2000, Joe-Pa has 4 losing seasons. Coach Fulmer only has one. He played at Tennessee. He has coached the school to a national championship and 2 conference titles. The overall question is how long is long enough to wait for another championship before you look for a replacement? And then, when you do decide to make a change, where do you look?

Overtime call: If you are a person who likes people, beautiful surroundings, and see college sports being more fun to watch than pro sports and you want to go to an exciting event…you HAVE to go watch a Tennessee football game at Neyland Stadium on a Saturday night. I guarantee an amazing time. Oh, be sure to let me know how it went…And as Logan would say,”GO BIG ORANGE!!!”

  1. I so agree…I’m a born and raised Texan, but you can’t go wrong with a Tesnnesse Volunteers football game. Talk about school spirit. And I’m all about that. I was afterall a cheerleader for several years and ended my high school career as school mascot. I can feel that Big Orange spirit now. Go RockyTop!!
