Country Road
…windows rolled down, tilled fields outlined by tall, dark trees. Going way too fast down an old country road. I need this. I have needed it for some time. Isn’t it amazing how you can pass an old farm house or a bird perched on a fence post and see it a little differently than you ever have before?
With Liz in the hospital, my children being cared for by family and friends and work demanding so much time, it is so hard to notice real life around me. It hurts. Life really is worth those tough times, but don’t tell me that when I hurt so bad. Don’t tell me to calm down when my wife is suppose to be coming with me and ends up in the floor of her hospital room. That same country road that on a certain night can be so calming…well, it can also be the most lonely road around.
How are you really suppose to look at your son’s big brown eyes when laying him down for bed and he asks if mommy is ok? “God is holding mommy, Buddy.” “Ok. Love you, Daddy.” Now, you can tell me life is worth it. Yes, I am a dad, heck, I am a dad of FIVE amazingly beautiful kids. I am a husband of woman who is stronger than I am. I am 28 years old attempting to learn life’s lessons on a daily basis. And I know life is worth it.
Last words of this post: Choose to look at your own country road a little differently.

Here’s to more lazy afternoons and quiet evenings at home on the couch next to the ones we love. Here’s hoping for more uneventful days.
